Flag Staff Tower (Delhi Ridge)

May 11, 1857 - Siege of Delhi!

As the rebels entered the city.. the British fled towards the Northwest regions of Delhi and the FLAG STAFF TOWER in the ridge area provided safe shelter to the women and children for a night.. but with no hopes of getting reinforcements anytime soon they had to flea further towards Karnal!!

Know more about the Revolt of 1857 (First War of Independence in India) in this episode....as we visit the Flagstaff Tower within the Delhi University ridge area.

Landmarks of 1857 - The Viceregal Lodge (Delhi Ridge)

During past few years we've been visiting several heritage sites in Delhi and have captured some of them on video as we. Sharing some of these experiences here on this blog :)
Starting with our new Heritage Exploration series that will refresh the memories of the REVOLT OF 1857
Not many are aware that the RIDGE area in the DELHI UNIVERSITY North Campus houses some of the key places associated to the revolt. Here in EPISODE 1 we get introduced to the place and to how it is linked to the mutiny/revolt. We also make a quick trip to the Vice Chancellor’s office which was the VICEREGAL LODGE back then during the days of the Raj!
Hope you’ll like it :) Cheers!
